PMI-PBA Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the PMI Professional in Business Analysis (PMI-PBA)® certification, candidates must meet specific educational and professional experience requirements. The requirements are divided into two main categories: Education and Business Analysis Experience.
Education and Experience:
Candidates must meet one of the following sets of requirements:
Option 1:
- Secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree, or global equivalent).
- Business Analysis Experience: 60 months working as a practitioner of business analysis. This experience must have been earned in the last 8 years.
- Business Analysis Education: 35 contact hours of education in business analysis practices. This education must be completed at the time of the application.
Option 2:
- Bachelor’s degree or global equivalent.
- Business Analysis Experience: 36 months working as a practitioner of business analysis. This experience must have been earned in the last 8 years.
- Business Analysis Education: 35 contact hours of education in business analysis practices. This education must be completed at the time of the application.
PMI-PBA® Application Process:
Complete 35 Hours of PMI-PBA Training: Ensure you have completed 35 contact hours of education in business analysis practices before starting the application process.
Submit Application: Complete and submit the PMI-PBA application online through PMI’s website.
Application Review: PMI will review your application to verify that all eligibility requirements are met.
Payment: Once your application is approved, you will need to pay the examination fee.
Audit (if selected): Some applications are randomly selected for an audit. If selected, you must provide supporting documentation to verify your education and experience claims.
Schedule Exam: After your application and payment are approved, you can schedule your exam at an approved testing center or via online proctoring.
PMI-PBA®Exam Details:
- Format: The PMI-PBA exam consists of 200 multiple-choice questions.
- No. of Scored Questions – 175
- No. of Pre-test (Unscored) Questions – 25
- Total Examination Questions – 200
- Time: Candidates have 240 minutes to complete the exam.
- Maintenance: PMI-PBA certification holders must earn 60 professional development units (PDUs) in business analysis topics every 3 years to maintain the certification.
